Never say never. Or in the case of the Fast franchise, and to quote Star Wars, “no one’s ever really gone”.

Over the past several weeks, reports of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson stated he would be returning to the Fast franchise in a follow-up spin-off film. Reports said this will have nothing to do with any of the previous entries. Neither will it be a follow-up to the 2019 Fast and Furious spin-off, Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw.

Instead, this will be “the HOBBS movie that will serve as a fresh, new chapter & set up for FASTX: Part II”, Johnson wrote on his Instagram and Twitter pages, seemingly confirming his return.

“Last summer, Vin and I put all the past behind us,” Johnson wrote. “We’ll lead with brotherhood and resolve – and always take care of the franchise, characters & FANS that we love.”

Johnson’s last film in the franchise was The Fate of the Furious back in 2017. Since wrapping the film, he’s been in an ongoing feud with his Fast and Furious co-star and producer Vin Diesel and hasn’t appeared in any Fast and Furious films since. Until now.

Johnson added to his post with a video saying, “Despite our differences, (me and Vin), we’ve been like brothers for years. When you lead with the idea of resolve but also you think about the future. You think about plans that are much bigger than ourselves. Those bigger plans are the bigger buildouts, the North Star is the franchise that we love, characters that we love and fans that we love. So when you add all that up, it’s not a hard decision to make. It’s yes.”
