Following the announcement of Blake Shelton’s exit from ‘The Voice’ after 23 seasons, NBC has announced that country music icon and Grammy Award Winner Reba McEntire will replace Blake Shelton.
The “I’m a Survivor” singer will join the show alongside John Legend, Niall Horan, and Gwen Stefani as the coaches for the 24th season of ‘The Voice’.
McEntire shared the news with fans when she posted a clip of her Voice chair with the caption “There’s a new Coach in town! See you all this Fall! #TheVoice”
However, despite McEntire becoming a full-time coach, this will not be Reba McEntire’s first time on the show. She has previously on the competition show when she served as a mega mentor recently in season 23.
Blake Shelton began considering leaving the show after 12 years when COVID hit but ultimately decided to remain on The Voice as the world returned to normalcy.
“I think I was close to calling it a day right when COVID hit,” Shelton said in an interview with the TODAY show. “And then, because of COVID, I didn’t want to walk away from the show and leave everybody in a bind. I mean, this show changed my life. I’ll stay here until the world kind of gets back to normal again.”
Shelton went on to credit the show as being an incredible opportunity that changed his life and even led him to meet his current wife, Gwen Stefani, who will return as a coach on the show in season 24.
The top eight on season 23 of ‘The Voice’ continue to battle it out in front of coaches Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, Niall Horan, and Chance the Rapper.
Live shows of ‘The Voice’ air on NBC at 8/7c on Mondays and streaming the next day on NBC’s Peacock streaming service.
