The hit CBS series Ghosts is back for a second season and there’s comedy and drama in the hectic household.

The show follows “Cheerful freelance journalist Samantha (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar), an up-and-coming chef from the city, throw both caution and money to the wind when they decide to convert a huge run-down country estate they inherited into a bed-and-breakfast–until they discover that it is inhabited by the spirits of many deceased former residents.”

I had the chance to sit down (virtually) with actor Asher Grodman who plays Trevor. We talked about what it’s been like stepping back into his character, what fans can expect from this season, favourite memories from the set, and more.

Gracie Lowes: First off congratulations on season two of “Ghosts” finally being out! How has this release and the days building up to it been for you?

Asher Grodman: Well when we filmed the first season we were coming out of the dark void that was COVID-19, and when a lot of us first booked the roles in March 2020 we weren’t sure what was going to happen with the show. It wasn’t until January of this year that we fully understood the reach and viewership of the show, so when we started filming season two we wanted to make the audience happy since they stood by the show and gave it love, and we really tried to find a good story to tell.

Gracie: What can fans expect from the new season compared to the first season?

Asher Grodman: “I think that because of the brilliant concept of the show we’ll always be able to play with time considering there are thousands of years of history on this plot of land, so we’ll always have flashbacks and we’ll be able to lean more into the ghostly aspect of the show and the world we’re in. But something that’s happening this season that didn’t happen much in the first season was now we’re using more ghosts each episode and creating unexpected duos and pairings of ghosts that wouldn’t normally be together being put together, so we get to look further into what those relationships look like and just overall getting to learn more about each ghost which has been a fun chapter to explore.”

Gracie: Do you have a favourite moment or memory from your time on set this season?

Asher Grodman: “I mean anything I tell you now I’m going to think of another fun time a few seconds later and want to change my answer. I will say that this cast really likes each other and being together so on our first day back when we started shooting the first scene we were just having so much fun joking around with each other that our director gave up trying to get information to us because we were laughing so much. Eventually much like school children, we were told to calm down and pay attention. But other than that there has been a very fun prank going on, I found a really good shop here called “Alice & Theo’s” so shoutout to them, and they make cream puffs that are amazing so I bought some for the whole cast, and crew and just laid them out for people to take, but production put out a sign that said ‘Thank you for your hard work, from Asher.’ Now the sign was a lot larger than I thought it was going to be, so when the cream puffs were eaten but the sign stayed up for about a week. So, my co-star, Roman saw this as an opportunity to start putting up inspirational quotes all over the set and associating them to me, so it’s funny to see quotes and cutouts of me all over the set.”

Gracie: Talking more about your character “Trevor,” how has he grown from the first season to this season?

Asher Grodman: “I love this character, and now that the audience has been given the first season to see who he is, but it’s sometimes hard to stay true to him while still building on his story and pushing boundaries which is fun because there’s a lot that goes into it and it’s been exciting to start playing with new storylines. The thing that I’ve noticed with Trevor this season is that he’s very much a party guy, clever, and very much the little brother of the group since he is the most recently dead. He runs right into messes and others clean it up for him, but this season he’s focused on bringing parts of his life into the afterlife such as frats and money so it’s interesting seeing how the other ghosts will react.”

Gracie: If you could describe this season in three words what would they be?

Asher Grodman: “Thrilling, combustible, pairings.”

Gracie: I know you’re busy with this release but do you have any future projects that you could hint at or talk about?

Asher Grodman: “Honestly, we still have a few months left of filming this so not at the moment. I’m just keeping busy with the show.”
