Teria Morada talks all things “Bon Voyage” and what to expect from her upcoming music. (Exclusive)

Singer/ songwriter Teria Morada is back with her latest release “Bon Voyage.” The new single is a fun-filled collaboration with Choclair and DJ Alonso Mendez.

From its melodic chorus, energetic rap, and an infectious vibe with catchy beats the new track has something for everyone to love.

The artists drew inspiration from the thrill of going on a holiday, meeting new people, the possibilities of what the world provides, and the sense of possibilities and good times.

I had the chance to sit down (virtually) with Teria Morada and talk to her about her latest release, what fans can expect from her music, future projects and more.

You can read the full interview below.

Gracie Lowes: Congratulations on your new single “Bon Voyage” which is a collaboration with Choclair and DJ Alonso Mendez! How has this both building up to the release and soon having it out in the world been for you?

Teria Morada: “It has honestly been quite a ride and I think that as we approach the date the intensity builds a little bit more. The week of the release we are action packed with TV appearances on CP24 and Breakfast Television and the release party at Lula Lounge May 13th, 2023, for our actual performance of the song. We are so excited for everyone to hear our track and watch the music video. We are starting to promote the track and I can’t wait for people to make it part of their summer soundtrack.”

Gracie: What was it specifically that drew you to want to be a part of this track?

Teria Morada: “I recorded a different version of Bon Voyage during the pandemic that I released on my Aries album. When my good friend DJ Alonso Mendez heard this version, he knew how special this song was to me, and how it represented all my influences, he wanted to make a pop/dance version of it and envisioned a male powerhouse rapper on it. Once hip-hop legend Choclair heard it, it all just came together to be a summer anthem that captures my essence as an artist and that fun feeling of travelling and wanderlust layered with a message of unity and multiculturalism that reflects Toronto and all of Canada as a multicultural hub. We storyboarded the video, and the rest is history. The song is ready to go. There is so much power, love, passion and push behind it so I’m excited to share it and perform it!”

Gracie: What was the creative process like making this song, and what do you hope listeners take from it?

Teria Morada: “The creative process was so much fun and a lot of hard work. This song reflects my love for Toronto and Canada. It’s inspired by the gratitude of having been immersed in so many different cultures through my experience as a professional dancer and choreographer, and as a Rhythmic Gymnastics athlete and coach. Teaching and influencing young girls by also exposing them to different music and cultures is at the core of my being and my song writing reflects it. I wanted to give shoutouts and celebrate all the different cultures that have influenced my artistry to where it is today, so I used key phrases that are easy to understand in other languages from different countries that I love and want to visit. What I would like the listeners to get from this is first, a whole bunch of fun and to make you want to dance. We do have a dance that goes along with it, and I would love for everyone to learn it. It’s a feel-good song with a feel-good message of multiculturalism and unity in our diversity.”

Gracie: Apart from this collaboration you also have solo music, how do you find inspiration for your music and their stories?

Teria Morada: “Most of it comes from true life experiences. I’m a storyteller. People that know me love hearing my stories, so I often mix them up into my songs and my choreography ideas. A lot of my friends tell me I should have a biography of my life done so people can hear all the stories. Hahaha. I get inspired easily. I can create something from nothing.”

Gracie: You’ve had so many great accomplishments in your career so far, what are some dream goals that you have for your future?

Teria Morada: “I want to play big shows like the Super Bowl and the Olympics. I’m a former athlete and I’m still involved in my sport (Rhythmic Gymnastics). I even make music for the sport and perform at some of the Canadian Rhythmic events. I have performed all over the world but never on my own tour. What would be one of my goals is to do my own world tour. I also have some dream collaborations like to perform alongside JLO and Shakira would be super cool too.”

Gracie: Do you have any future projects that you could hint at or talk about?

Teria Morada: “I am excited to share that I am working with DJ Alonso Mendez who is producing my upcoming EP also titled “Bon Voyage ” which we are currently hard at work on finishing this album. There are collaborations with Chelo Som from the Dominican Republic, Christie Nelson and Juno Nominee Beny Osguerra from “New Traditions Music” as well as some revamped versions of my previous songs and some other surprises, all in that ‘Teria Morada’ fusion. I am also hard at work on performances, one of them as a singer and choreographing the “TropiCanada Show” for a repeat performance at Summer Soulsa this year again in New Brunswick. I also have several other shows coming up this summer like Canadian Music Week and a fundraiser for Ukraine that my friend Denis Commie is organizing to help aid displaced children and animals. There are many appearances and collaborations that are in the works that you’ll have to wait to find out.”

Gracie: If you could describe yourself and your upcoming music in three words what would they be and why?

Teria Morada: “International, vibrant, fun. It’s hard to describe myself and my music in three words so I tried to fuse us together. All my music, much like me, is international as there is a mix of cultures in both. Vibrant because I believe my energy and the song’s energy are very lively and up-beat. Lastly, fun because the dance that goes with “Bon Voyage” and the vibe of all the other songs in my upcoming EP are all super fun to dance and “Bon Voyage” is great to sing along to as well. I also have a lot of fun performing for everyone and I hope that transcends and is infectious to all!”
