If you’re a fan of adventure and are looking for a new TV series to binge then look now further… Disney+ has expanded the “National Treasure” franchise with their new release “National Treasure: Edge of History”.
The series follows “Jess Valenzuela’s (Lisette Olivera) life as it’s turned upside down when an enigmatic stranger gives her a clue to a centuries-old treasure that might be connected to her long-dead father. Jess has a knack for solving puzzles, and her skills are put to the test as she and her friends follow a series of clues hidden in American artifacts and landmarks. But can Jess outsmart a black-market antiquities dealer in a race to find history’s greatest lost treasure and unbury the truth about her family’s past?.”
I had the chance to sit down (virtually) with actress Salena Qureshi who plays “Meena” in the series, to talk to her about her time on set, what it’s been like to join such a huge franchise, her future projects, and more.
You can read the full interview below.
Gracie Lowes: Congratulations on the release of “National Treasure: Edge of History”! How has this release and the days building up to it been for you?
Salena Qureshi: “Thank you so much! I’ve actually been in bed with the flu. So for me, it has really been a time of reflection and gratitude. I absolutely loved working with this incredible cast and crew and I’m so grateful that I was given the opportunity to join the National Treasure family.”
Gracie: What can fans of the original films expect from this series?
Salena: “Fans can expect a more modern and diverse take while still maintaining what we all loved about the original films.”
Gracie: In the show you play “Meena”, could you tell us a little bit about your character and what it was like bringing her to life?
Salena: “Meena is a pre-med student and Ethan’s new girlfriend. She has a heart of gold and is confident in who she is and what she wants. Getting to play her was truly an amazing experience. To get the opportunity to portray such an intelligent and strong woman alongside this incredible cast was an honor.”
Gracie: Were you a fan of the films before booking your role in this show, and what has it been like joining a legacy like this
Salena: “I was and still am a huge fan of the films. Those movies were such a huge part of my childhood. This whole experience has been very surreal, I don’t think I’ve fully grasped the idea that I’m now a part of the National Treasure legacy.”
Gracie: What was it specifically that drew you to want to be a part of this project? Was it the cast, script, characters, etc?
Salena: “When I saw that it was National Treasure I was instantly interested and when I heard the Wibbs were going to be involved I was floored.”
Gracie: If you could describe this season in three words what would they be and why?
Salena: “I would describe this season as heartfelt, gripping, and unpredictable. I wouldn’t be able to explain why without giving away too much information. But I can assure you that it will be a fun watch.”
Gracie: This series is action packed and so complex, what would you want to see in a possible season two?
Salena: “Season two, I would love to see the man, the myth, the legend, Mr. Nic Cage.”
Gracie: I know you’re enjoying this release, but I have to ask, do you have any future projects you could hint at or talk about?
Salena: “I’m heading to Vancouver in a few short weeks to begin filming a new movie that I get to sing and dance in. It’s totally different from anything I have ever done before so I’m extremely excited!”
